Keoghs aim to boost local careers with ‘earn while you learn’ apprenticeship scheme

18/08/2016

With many school and sixth form leavers about to receive their exam results, local law firm, Keoghs, are proud to announce a new apprenticeship scheme in partnership with Damar Training.

The initiative has been set up for those considering a career in the legal profession who may be dissuaded by the prospect of university fees, and will allow apprentices to gain invaluable, paid experience whilst also beginning their law studies without the associated costs.

Keoghs, one of Bolton’s largest employers, is offering a variety of roles and specialist areas including paralegal and legal admin positions. Applications are open to those with a requisite number of GCSEs or A-Levels, depending on the position.

Upon completion of the programme, successful apprentices will have access to a variety of opportunities in order to continue their career at Keoghs, moving into other positions within the business and taking on higher level legal roles.

Keoghs Head of People, Joanne Wright, was excited about the initiative, stating:

“We are very proud to offer this opportunity to ambitious individuals who want to work for a progressive, market leading defendant law firm.  At Keoghs we pride ourselves on developing our people and, in fact, over 20% of employees in entry level roles were promoted in the last year.”

“It’s a massive shame that talented, young people are passing on their dream of a career in the legal profession over concerns about long term debt. This scheme opens up new career pathways into the firm for those who may not have ordinarily had the opportunity, whilst Keoghs also benefits by attracting new talent who could be tomorrow’s Associates and Partners.”

Jonathan Bourne, Managing Director at Damar Training, also commented:

“It is great to see Keoghs growing their apprenticeship programme and this is testament to their commitment to offering young people the opportunity to pursue a career in law.  Legal apprenticeships are a wonderful alternative route into the law and following the introduction of the new trailblazer standards, this fits in with Keoghs strategy for growth”
