Sarah qualified as a solicitor in 2007 and has specialised in defending catastrophic injury claims for 9 years, most typically brain and spinal injury claims arising from motor and workplace accidents ranging from £2m to £10m. She has a particular interest in complex causation cases involving minors with subtle brain injuries.
Sarah has an in-depth understanding of catastrophic injury and a forensic ability to analyse a case which has resulted in substantial savings for a number of major insurers.
Notable cases include:
• A rare and notable win at a liability trial involving a paraplegic where the defendant’s motor vehicle was emerging from a side road onto a main road and collided with a claimant motorcyclist.
• Successfully turned around a significant brain injury claim that had been with another defendant law firm for five years. Within a year of instruction, Sarah and the team were able to settle the claim and dismantle the extensive care regime that had been in place for four years, resulting in savings of over £4 million for the insurer. Care and case management alone was costing £145k per annum and settled for £20k per annum.
• Successfully settled a 20 year old claim with complex causation issues. The claimant, aged three months, sustained a serious traumatic brain injury in a RTA which was complicated by a congenital heart defect at birth. Sarah was able to secure a significant reduction in damages by attributing key heads of loss to the congenital heart defect.
• Successfully disputed that a seriously brain injured claimant living in a fully-funded LA home should be discharged in the community with the implementation of a private care and therapy regime. Liability was conceded in full and Sarah was able to settle the claim with full LA funding via a PPO which provided for a reverse indemnity.
