The Keoghs credit hire and credit hire fraud teams held a mock ‘trial’ for clients in June, taking over the Moot Court room at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston. With the assistance of Steven Turner (as a very realistic judge), Corin Furness and Gareth Price from Parklane Plowden chambers, the 30 attendees were given a chance to see how a case they prepare and investigate pre-litigation can unfold in the pressure cooker of the court room.
An expert performance from the renowned barristers allowed the audience to see the case of a taxi driver unfold, highlighting elements of fraud in a large and hugely-suspect credit hire claim. Gareth gave the claimant, played by our very own thespian, Mark Sanderson, a real grilling!
With trial bundles in hand, the audience was separated into two groups to look at the case from the defendant and claimant perspective, with regular breakout sessions held to assess the evidence given and determine which path they thought the trial was going to follow and the Judgment to be handed down by Mr Turner. The attendees were really split as to the eventual outcome which resulted in the claimant being given short shrift!
