Keoghs grabs a handful of awards, a new FOIL president, & £2,300 for charity

05/02/2019

Keoghs has had its fair share of success since our first issue was released.

Firstly the firm won five awards, including a hat trick for our counter-fraud team at the Insurance Fraud Awards. This included winning Intelligence Team of the Year which recognised the firm’s standard-bearing intelligence services, and Fraud Investigation Team of the Year for its work in the casualty fraud arena. Partner, James Heath, was also delighted to receive the recognition of his peers with the prestigious Achievement Award.

This capped off a monumental couple of months for our counter-fraud partner, who was also named as president of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL) in November. Commenting on the appointment, James said;

"The FOIL presidency is a prestigious honour, and it has never been a more interesting time to take up the reins with the prospect of Brexit on the horizon.

In taking over the presidential baton from Stephen Hines, I see the core challenge as one of continuity – building on the strong and positive engagement that FOIL has delivered over the last 12 months."

It wasn’t just the fraud team picking up awards recently, with our much-heralded apprenticeship scheme picking up a gong for ‘Best Company for Apprentice Development’ at the Bolton Business Awards, whilst our IT department continued to hoover up prizes, this time taking Technology Team of the Year at the British Legal Technology Awards.

A little closer to home and Vickie Forsyth, Litigation Specialist for the Corporate and Sector Risks team, was named as one of six mentors on the Leisure Expert Panel at the recent LEP conference. This was a great achievement which crowned a successful day at Willis Towers Watson’s offices in London for our Leisure and Hospitality team.

The team also registered a big trial win in the case of Robinson v Bourne Leisure, successfully defending a dance floor slip claim related to a spilt drink, setting a potential precedent for future cases.

Meanwhile the firm has raised lots for charity recently with our Liverpool office alone collecting £354 for the Macmillan Trust via some tasty baking, with the firm as a whole whipping up over £2,300.
