In November 2014, Keoghs sponsored and supported a Parliamentary dinner in partnership with the safety charity, RoSPA. The theme for the evening was young driver safety and brought together Parliamentarians to debate the worrying statistics associated with young driver and passenger fatalities and serious injuries. Notwithstanding a pledge to consult on the issue, the Government had failed to bring forward a Green Paper to investigate measures such as graduated driving licences, increasing the period to learn to drive and improving the rigour of the driving test itself.
As a result of that dinner, work has been undertaken on a paper setting out the key issues and possible solutions. That paper has now been sent to all of the main political parties urging them to place the issue of young driver safety in their manifestos for May 2015. The paper has attracted a long list of supporting signatories (including the ABI and MIB) and Keoghs are proud to have played their part in pressing this important issue just prior to the election. We will continue to campaign on this issue within Westminster with the next Administration.
