Keoghs’ strategic disease team, based in Coventry and headed by David Pugh, has achieved a £52 million settlement payment for Aviva, RSA and Zurich.
The underlying legal challenge was devised and mounted by Keoghs and supported by the three insurers. The claim was made against Cape plc and concerned historic asbestos liabilities.
The settlement was reached after a six week trial in the High Court. The hearing examined decades of Cape activities in the supply of asbestos products. The hearing involved five QCs, multiple expert witnesses, and witnesses of fact. Around 60,000 pages of documents were before the court.
Keoghs’ Director of Technical Claims Services, Gary Fitzpatrick commented:
“We are all delighted with the result and very proud of our team who worked with tireless skill and dedication over many years to get us and our clients to this point. Providing innovative strategic support and advice for our clients in the legacy market was always a core element of our vision for the disease team here at Keoghs and it’s a great boost for the whole team to have seen their initial idea realised in such an emphatic fashion.”
