WM Morrisons v Various Claimants

The Supreme Court has handed down judgment in WM Morrisons Supermarkets plc (Appellant) v Various Claimants (Respondent), finding for Morrisons. As with the parallel matter of Barclays Bank plc (Appellant) v Various Claimants (Respondents), the case concerns the scope of vicarious liability.  Daniel Tyler (Associate), who was part of a team assisting Alastair Gillespie in the Barclays litigation, considers the Morrisons judgment and its ramifications.

DSN v Blackpool Football Club [2020] EWHC 596 QB

The High Court (Mr Justice Griffiths) has recently handed down judgment for the claimant in a sexual abuse claim. The claimant was awarded £17,000 for abuse by a former football scout, Frank Roper, for whose actions the defendant football club was held vicariously liable.

EXE v The Governors of the Royal Naval School [2020] EWHC 595 QB

The High Court (Mr Justice Griffiths) has recently handed down judgment in this non-recent sexual abuse claim, finding for the defendant on all issues including limitation, vicarious liability, negligence and consent. Keoghs Associate, Christopher Wilson, and assistant Hannah Kirkman, who acted on behalf of the defendants and their insurers, consider the decision and its potential implications.

Allianz and Keoghs stand firm in face of intimidation tactics

A recent staged road traffic accident which included a particularly high value credit hire claim, has been successfully defended at trial by Keoghs and Allianz. The case was particularly notable for the claimant solicitor’s aggressive tactics against the insurer and the subsequent bringing of a credit hire company into proceedings.
