Helen Tinsley, Associate Solicitor
Helen is one of the many Keoghs lawyers who started their legal career with the firm on a highly sought-after training contract and stayed to rise through the ranks on its completion.
"I wanted to train at a firm with a good reputation and who invested time and resources into their trainees and, when my training was over, I was offered a role as solicitor in the disease team assisting a partner."
Now Helen is an associate of the firm and team leader of a disease litigated team, a role she won having successfully led a pre-litigated disease team on a large outsource project for an insurer.
"I really enjoy seeing my team develop and every day really is different with a new challenge - the role really does present so much variety."
Michael Shore, Trainee Solicitor
Michael Shore was working as a landscape gardener when he decided to ‘branch out’ into law and undertake two weeks of work experience at Keoghs within the costs department.
After his work experience, a six-week spell as an Admin Assistant for Keoghs’ HR department meant he got first sight of a role as a Paralegal in costs and, having aced the interview, started his legal career.
"Not quite five years on, I am a Fee Earner Assistant to a Partner within the complex disease team in technical claims having moved out of costs to build my knowledge in other areas – something that Keoghs is really supportive about."
Now Michael is focusing his considerable determination on qualifying as a Solicitor and his ambition to be a lead Fee Earner within the disease department before making Associate and then Partner.
"I have developed my knowledge of how files are run from start to finish, developed my organisational skills, technical knowledge, negotiation skills and advocacy skills. Generally my confidence in myself has grown over the years. My story shows that hard work and persistence pays off here."
Jennifer Taylor, Team Leader – Disease Team
A desire to work for a large, successful law firm led Jennifer Taylor to leave her job at a small claimant firm and join Keoghs where she started out as a fee earner in claims management services (CMS).
“I had been doing claimant work for a number of years and felt I had progressed as far as I could within the current firm I was working at, yet had a desire to grow my career much further. I had come across Keoghs numerous times in my claimant role and had been impressed with their claims management as well as their general reputation within the market place. When I came for interview I knew straightaway that Keoghs was the right fit for me. The two people interviewing me were personable, friendly also extremely knowledgeable, but most of all they had both progressed through the business into senior positions."
After less than two years in CMS Jennifer moved to the disease part of technical claims services where, after a spell of retraining, she took on a role in the litigated disease team.
She then moved into a team leading position and has since led a number of different teams within the disease department. More recently Jennifer has taken on the role of deputy business unit director for disease.
“I always say to people if you have a good work ethic and are ambitious then Keoghs is a great place to be. There are always lots of opportunities within Keoghs and I love the variety. People are able to experience different areas within the business and progression is always actively encouraged. Keoghs will always do their best to support your development."
