Keoghs enjoyed an evening of professional and unprecedented success at the 2013 Eclipse Proclaim Personal Injury Awards (Tuesday 26 November) by scooping all three categories we entered.
Our disease team – which negotiates claims for work-related illnesses - was named Defendant Personal Injury Team of the Year for the second time in three years; disease partner, David Pugh, won the Defendant Personal Injury Lawyer of the Year; whilst Helen Tinsley triumphed in the hotly contested new category of Young Achiever of the Year. Our disease team has grown rapidly in recent years – expanding from just five people in 2007 to over 100 – to become one of the dominant forces in the market.
The team, led by partner Gary Fitzpatrick, believes that the way in which many law firms approach the handling of disease claims has failed to keep pace with improvements in medical knowledge, case law and the objectives of insurers in terms of cost and speed of resolution. They base their approach on streamlining the handling of disease claims in a structured, process-driven way so that cycle times are reduced, customer service is improved and costs, for both defendants and claimants, are lowered.
Gary Fitzpatrick said, “We are delighted that our disease team have been recognised by winning three different categories at this year’s Personal Injury Awards. It is an indication of the significant progress we have made in a number of areas; whether leading debate and shaping future strategy for our clients, as David does, or minimising client costs and indemnity spend which is the team’s overall strategy, we feel that this area of our business is the best in the market.”
He added; “I am particularly pleased that one of our young solicitors, Helen Tinsley, has also been recognised. We take training and development of our staff very seriously. Her win underlines our approach and determination to train and retain our best staff so they can expand their knowledge and expertise and so advance within the firm.”
This is not the first time that Keoghs has enjoyed success at the Personal Injury Awards.
Partner Andrew Underwood was heralded as Defendant Personal Injury Lawyer of the Year at the inaugural awards in 2008; our dedicated Fraud Rings unit was crowned Personal Injury Team of the Year in 2009 – a category the Disease Team won again in 2011 - the same year Partner Neil Southern won Outstanding Case of the Year.
Keoghs has undergone a period of rapid growth in recent years which has seen partner numbers increase to 73, headcount rise to more than 1200 and new offices opened in Bolton, Manchester and Coventry. We were one of the first law firms in the country to become an Alternative Business Structure (ABS) when Lloyds Development Capital (LDC) took a minority stake in the firm in 2012.
